LESSON PLAN

Overview: by watching this lovely movie, the students will learn about a Mexican holiday and they will gain an understanding of the various cultures and different views of life and death.

Objectives:

  • Students will discuss how death is associated in our culture.
  • Students will make a video, a song, or a conversation about the topic of the movie. 
  • Students will put in practice reading strategies, grammar, structures and vocabulary.  

Materials. The Book of Life pdf, blue-ray, computer, projector, flashcards.

 

Procedure.

Pre-reading.

1. Teacher introduces the topic by reviewing vocabulary like 'festivity, tradition, funerals, and culture'. Students brainstorm ideas about what they understand by death and how they feel about it. Teacher briefly tells the students that Mexicans have a different approach to death. 20'

2. Students read the workshop structure in order to familiarize with it (they can download it). At this part they are expected to ask questions about the movie or the workshop. 10'.

3. Students Complete the chart and write their prediction of the movie. 10'.

 

While-reading. 

4. students watch the movie and complete the workshop. 90'.

 

Post-reading.  

5. Students listen to the Apology Song and fill-in the blanks.  

6. Students make a poster of the movie including information about a traditional celebration in the USA or any Latin American country and present it to the class.
